Bri & Jeff - Married

It’s so funny how I end up meeting my clients sometimes. Every so once in a while a bride to be goes on Facebook looking for recommendations for photographers. What follows is nothing short of a frenzy of piranhas, (photographers), dropping their deets and hoping the bride will reach out to them. I skip all of that and just send the inquiring bride a message directly. Sometimes they reply, sometimes they don’t.. The bride, (Bri), replied this go-around and told me that she and her fiance, (Jeff), were coming to BC in the fall to get married and they were in need of a photographer. Typically these things are booked well in advance but their date and my schedule just happened to align with just a little over two months until their wedding date.

As it happens, they are from good ‘ol Edmonton Alberta, my hometown. Right off the hop, that was a welcome coincidence as Jeff and myself are both die-hard Oilers fans. (I’ve lived in BC for 11 years now and proudly wear my jersey in the heart of enemy territory, so you can imagine the flak I take for that…).

She said, “he’s gonna love you, and that’s good because he hates having photos done”.

Perfect!

It just so happened that I was headed to Edmonton to visit family the following week so I was able to meet with her. The timing was nothing short of uncanny. I met her and her mom with my kids in tow, and we spoke about the details, (I would also learn that they hadn’t actually had a chance to see my work yet!) I went back to BC a few days later and Bri messages me and says they are very happy with everything, the fit seems almost too good to be true.

Come October, wedding day was around the corner and I knew where I wanted to take them to do their photos. But I wanted to take it just one step further. Being that Jeff was such a big Oilers fan and so was I, I wanted to make the groomsmen photos unique. I pitched the idea to Bri about doing an Oiler Jersey thing and she said let’s do it. Funnily enough, when the Bride and groom and the rest of the wedding party arrived, only 1 groomsman actually remembered to bring his jersey! Not to worry, I have 5 extras!!

in the end, I got to pull off the shots I wanted along with everything else I typically get to capture. What made this day so unique and special were the people in it and the new friends I made. Getting to incorporate their passions into their photos with their love for Baseball, (they play on the same team), their loyalty to the Oil, and the friends who stood by their side for it all - it was everything I had envisioned it would be and more. Every so once in a while you get to do a wedding where the people you are working with are your people. I truly look forward to their return later this summer. Hopefully we will have something to celebrate come June!!

My thanks to Amy and Tandy, my trusty make-up and hair team that took care of the bride and and her bridesmaids - you did amazing as always.

Bri and Jeff, I love you guys. I’ll see you soon. Oh, and LET’S GO OILERS!
